How to choose the right molding on the ceiling

What are the baseboards for the ceiling made of?

The usual materials for the manufacture of moldings – wood, gypsum, alabaster are no longer as popular as before. Now lightweight and technological materials that are convenient to work with are in demand. In particular, these are moldings made of polyurethane. They have a smooth surface, they are convenient to process and paint. Polyurethane molding with a lacquered surface looks especially impressive. Such a ceiling plinth can be washed with detergents.

In addition, the polyurethane plinth is flexible and can be glued to rounded areas. This material is very technological, and it is possible to make various elements from it, imitating complex and intricate stucco molding and carving. Such moldings are perfect for stretch ceilings.

On sale you can find skirting boards made of polyurethane foam. They are lighter and cheaper, more flexible, but inferior in quality to polyurethane counterparts. Polystyrene moldings are very common, but unlike polyurethane moldings, they have a granular surface, which can be turned into an undeniable advantage. It all depends on the design ideas.

The cheapest option is foam plastic. There is no need to talk about its ease, but foam baseboards are very brittle, can react poorly to some types of glue and paint. For example, the glue “Moment” simply corrodes the foam completely, you need to buy a special glue. Evenly cutting off the edge of the baseboard is very problematic, it constantly chips and breaks, and the sound of cutting foam with a knife is unlikely to please you.
