laying cork flooring -Durability, strength, environmental friendliness and ability to recover after a long thick vertical loads – all characteristics of cork flooring, laying about which we discuss in this article. Cork floors are divided into two types: the adhesive and the “floating”, respectively, and their stacking technology is different, but there are common elements. For example, such as surface preparation.
Surface preparation before laying cork coating
Proper surface preparation is not only facilitates installation of floors, but also increases their service life. The most important requirement for the surface: smooth, smooth, clean and dry surface. It can be concrete, wood, ceramic tile and so on. Not install “floating” floors in the old linoleum type elastic coatings.
You can leave a roughness not exceeding 3 mm to 2 m length of the floor. Anything above (below) this tolerance, carefully aligned with special mixtures (for concrete floors) or putty (for wood). To protect from moisture on the surface of polyethylene film is laid “overlap” with the treatment of joints with tape and with a bend on the wall (excess trimmed baseboards after installation).
To improve sound insulation and additional insulation is laid over the film sheet or roll tube (2 mm) between the rolls and the walls provide thermal gap (10 mm).
Styling: general recommendations
Before laying the tiles or panels cover and glue must undergo acclimatization: they must stand in the original container for 2 days in the room where will be styling. And while laying the room temperature should be maintained at the same level.
At the junction tube to walls, ledges, door sills, heating pipes, etc., necessary to provide a thermal expansion gap (5-10 mm). At the end of these “padding” closed plinths, which must be fixed to the walls. Strong clamp to the floor is not necessary.
When laying the long side panels and tiles must be oriented parallel to the incident rays of light from the window. This trick allows you to mask the joints between the tiles and panels make them less noticeable. However, if the base is wood floors, targeting option is only one – perpendicular to the floorboards.
Technology laying floating floors
Material for such floors are cork panels joined to the castle. Montage technique is practically no different from laying flooring: comb – groove. When installing this type of cork covering the following tools:
gon, roulette and pencil markings;
wedges for installation gaps between panels and walls;
a fine-toothed handsaw or jigsaw to trim panels;
Drill holes for decoration and cut-outs in the panels.
Before laying the measured width of the room and calculates the number of rows so that the last row was at least 5 cm If the condition is not satisfied, then trimmed to the width of the first row of panels. Installation of the floor is made in the following sequence:
The first row is laid at a distance of 10 mm from the lateral and transverse walls. Surplus last panels are cut. In this case, when cutting with a hacksaw, cut the front side is necessary, and using a jigsaw – with purl.
Panel next row to mask butt joints should be laid out with a shift to the previous (with the “overlap” of about 30 cm) are used for this trim panels. Docking “comb – groove” does not require further explanation.
If the benchmark for styling is a wall with projections and irregularities, before laying the first row of panels are cut along the line follows the contour of the wall.
When installing the last row panels are cut to provide adequate clearance between it and the wall.
To dock panels used in doorways profile “nut” with its attachment not to panels and the floor between them.
After laying between walls and panels set wedges and leave before mounting plinths.
Technology laying adhesive cork flooring
Mounting adhesive flooring is much like laying tile PVC. The work will require:
ruler, tape measure, chalk, pencil and marking cutter and cut cork tiles;
trowel and roller for applying glue;
heavy rubber hammer or roller;
Laying tiles starts from the center of the room. When this is done before fixing tiles preliminary layout and selection of its pattern and tone. In conventional styling guide lines are drawn parallel to the walls of the room, while the diagonal – an angle of 45 degrees. Just as when laying the panels, between the coating and the wall, should be provided a gap of 5-10 mm.
The adhesive is applied to both the base (spatula), and fix tiles (roll). After applying the glue to give dry for an hour, and then stack tiles on the previously defined place for it.
Periodically, as the bonding, to improve the fit to the bottom of the tiles rattling necessary rubber mallet. Adhesive recommended by the same manufacturer as the floor covering. Processing adjacencies to uneven walls, pipes, coupling in doorways made the same as in the case of “floating” floors. Pruning is done only with the cutter.
In conclusion, about caring for cork flooring laid. The best way to care for any kind of coating – it can not contaminate it, that is not to walk on it. But this is impossible. And so a few tips that will help ensure a long and comfortable operation of the coating:
Protect floors from excessive contamination from moisture, to prevent congestion at the junction of its panels and tiles. Tidy up not wet, and slightly damp cloth.
Not for use as detergent compositions containing abrasives or solvents.
Protect floors from sunlight.
Properly arranged and competently operated cork flooring durability are comparable to high-quality parquet!
