How to calculate the power of the air conditioner and choose the right unit for your needs

When choosing an air conditioner, it is initially important to calculate the required cooling capacity. Properly selected in power, the air conditioner works in climate control mode.

HOW TO CALCULATE THE POWER OF THE AIR CONDITIONER

Many are already thinking about buying an air conditioner, without waiting for the onset of summer heat. What should be the first thing to pay attention to when choosing climate technology?

Perhaps the main characteristic of the air conditioner is the power, from which its effective operation will hang. A low-power unit will not be able to fully perform its functional duties in a large room, and a powerful air conditioner in a small room will often overheat and turn off, which will lead to its rapid breakdown. Therefore, having decided to buy, first of all it is necessary to calculate this main parameter.

When calculating the power of climate technology, most people most often focus on the standard formula: 1 kW of power per 10 m2 of room area. However, there are many other factors that influence the calculation: the amount of light entering the room, the average annual air temperature, the number of people staying in the room and electrical appliances used, and also other parameters.

How to calculate the required power of the air conditioner for my apartment?

That is, when the user-set temperature is reached, the compressor is turned off and only the internal unit works – a fan, blinds, additional functions. With a slight increase in the temperature of the air in the room, the compressor receives a command from the temperature sensors, and it turns on again.

1000 W count for every 10 m2 of room;

to the resulting amount, add 25% if a sufficient amount of sunlight enters the room and 30% – if the device will be operated in a room with windows to the south side;

we add 300 W for each household appliance used in the room;

100 watts for each family member.

By a simple addition, get the necessary power of the air conditioner to cool a particular room. With this calculation, you can go to the salon of climatic equipment, for example, to the RB Climate, where experienced specialists will help you choose the model you like.

It is important to remember that air conditioners have two capacities: electricity consumption and cooling. For example, the instructions indicate 1000 W and 2.5 kW. In the first case, this is the power consumption, in the second – it is an indicator of the cooling capacity. It is worth paying attention to another important parameter – the energy efficiency index EER (Energy Efficiency Ratio). This is the ratio of cooling power to power consumption. Manufacturers designate the category of energy efficiency of household appliances with letters from A to G (the best is A, the worst is G).

Moreover, in some cases, if the actual power of the air conditioner is much lower than the calculated one, then there is no effect at all from the operation of the air conditioner and the money is wasted.
