Cool glass to drill or the wick

Then mark the exact spot where we want to drill, we must encircle it with a ring of plasticine or Putty around and fill the enclosure with a little turpentine or kerosene, this is done to cool the glass.

Another easiest way is to do it directly with Wick, i.e., wet the tip of the wick with kerosene or turpentine.
The task of cooling is important because the wick overheat when drilling, and the glass may crack.

Now, we will set up well the glass so not we move during drilling (in the event is no longer a window glass subject, but one loose). For that, we should support it on a flat base.

Finally, be drilling at low revs, and pressing gently drill, to move it forward slowly and thus prevent splitting the glass.

So how to drill glass

First of all, we need to decide which drill bit is suitable for us to process glass. After all, the tools used, for example, for iron, in this case are not suitable – they will simply break the glass.

That is why we will need an unusual drill bit that has an arrowhead to get a hole in the glass. Such devices are covered with a unique coating, which allows not just drilling, but as if to remove one layer after another from the surface, confidently thinning it.

In addition, there are so-called tubular drills, in which the cutting part is covered with small diamonds. They are ideal for glass or tiles. We will not be able to do without this tool when we need to make a large hole.

And which tool to choose for such a drill? To be honest, the simplest drill will do, which provides for adjusting the speed of rotation (this is necessary because we will work at extremely low revs).

As for tempered glass, we will not even try to drill it – it will certainly deteriorate. But if you really need it, then seek help from specialists.
