There are not so many things that are able to work independently, without an external source of energy, and a special place among them is the Heron Fountain. Its main advantage is that it works thanks to the natural laws of nature, without expending third-party energy.

In fact, everything is not quite so – it is not a perpetual engine, and certainly not a source of gratuitous energy. Such a fountain needs a regular “recharge” – depending on the design, it may be required every 15-50 minutes. In principle, this is a simple procedure that will require a person to swap a couple of containers. If you rush in clever terms, the basis of the work of the fountain Heron is based on the principle of hydropnematics – the work of pushing water up the jet produces air and the liquid itself. Naturally, the case here is not without gravity, thanks to which the fountain system creates the necessary pressure. Such a fountain consists of at least three containers.

Bowl. Let’s call it the starting point – the start from which the liquid begins its movement in the system of the Fountain of Heron. This is a normal open container, made by the type of bowl or plate. From it on a thin tube water comes into an empty container, located at the bottom of the fountain.

The bottom is empty. It serves to achieve two goals. First, the water flowing from the bowl compresses the air contained in it and thus creates the pressure needed to push the water upside down. And secondly, it collects water that creates this pressure (i.e. the one that flows down). Here it remains until the next recharge of the fountain.

The upper container – in a charged state it with water. It is this liquid and pushed out in the form of a thin jet of water. It is pushed out by compressed air – the pressure formed in the lower flask. This air on a thin tube enters the upper flask, displacing from there the liquid, which pours out the fountain, again gets into the bowl, from where, again, flows into the lower flask.

As you know, such a fountain will work until the liquid in the upper capacity is used – after that it requires recharging, thanks to which this system has nothing like an eternal engine or an endless source of energy. Recharging the Heron fountain is simply simple – a full flask (the one that was bottom) is installed instead of an empty container mounted on top, which, in turn, is put instead of full capacity. After reloading the fountain will need to start – in the top bowl will need to add some water.

As you can see, everything is quite simple, and even the principle of making the Heron fountain with your own hands is no exception. How to make the Heron Fountain: Assembly features

So, the principle of the Fountain of Heron is clear, now it remains to understand the intricacies and options of its assembly. There are several different designs.

The closed Heron Fountain for the premises. The advantage of such a fountain lies in two things: first, it is very compact and, secondly, it is collected so that the water does not contaminate with the surrounding air. It is not sprayed, and all the action takes place in one transparent case, divided into sections that are connected to each other by tubes. Moreover, another important advantage of such a system of fountain is elementary recharging – all that needs to be done is to turn the installation like an hourglass, wait until the water pours into the desired container and turn it back.

Once you do, the fountain will work again. In manufacturing in technological terms, it is a very complex design – you can assemble, but before that it is desirable to train on a simplified version. At the same time and understand the principle of work – it will give an opportunity to make their own additions to the design.

The classic open fountain of Heron. The simplest system on which you need to train – as mentioned above, it is easily collected from plastic bottles. The only thing that is difficult here is to make the base – the very rack of the fountain. In principle, this moment can be solved by a pair of usual inexpensive plastic basins and threaded studs – one basin will act as a support, and the second in the role of a fountain bowl. In the last you need to make a couple of holes – one to install a nozzle (through it will pour a trickle), and the second to drain the water. After that, two plastic bottles are hung on the rack, in the lids of which are also drilled through a couple of holes. Then everything needs to be connected by tubes according to the scheme below. That is, from the drain hole the tube falls into the bottom bottle (at its bottom), from it the second tube is laid in the top bottle (both of its ends should be placed under the top of the bottles). And the last tube, lowered to the bottom of the top bottle, connects to the nozzle of the fountain.

In principle, this is the whole system of the Fountain of Heron. The only thing to add here is to clarify a few details. First, the whole system should have exceptional tightness – there should be only a few open places (drain from the bowl and nozzle of the fountain). And, secondly, the height of the jet of this fountain directly depends on the distance between the upper and lower containers – all this case will have to independently adjust on your own.

How to make the Heron Fountain: what you can improve

They say that there is no limit to perfection, and almost any thing can be upgraded indefinitely – it is not quite so, but nevertheless the possibility of improvement of any product is almost always available. The Heron Fountain is no exception – there is a lot to upgrade.

The very first is the increase of the jet of water. Above, we have already said that it depends on the distance between the upper and lower capacity – you understand that indefinitely (or at least until the necessary moment) to increase this distance may not work.

There is one trick – if you properly pair two such systems of containers and tubes, then at least the height of the jet will double. In general, you will need not one, but two water-filled bottles and two similarly empty, connected with each other tubes consistently – full, empty, then again full and again empty jar. Full banks from above, empty from below – will not work in another way.

Improving the recharge system. In principle, it is not difficult to change water containers, but this fountain looks much more attractive if it will be recharged at the lowest cost. There may be many ways, but the most interesting will be the one that you will come up with yourself – without manual intervention here can not do in any case, so the best option is not to think through ways to recharge, and increase the volume of containers to the maximum possible and reduce the rate of water consumption to the same limits.

Decoration. Due to the fact that the most popular decor today is illumination, immediately there is a question with its provision of electric energy. Naturally, the easiest way to connect such a fountain to the socket, but much more interesting to preserve the energy independence of the fountain – believe me, today it is not so difficult. You can use both solar panels and water movement. For example, under the downward jet of water you can install a water wheel, which connect with a small generator of electric current – it will be enough to ignite a couple of LEDs.

In general, despite the fact that in general the Fountain of Heron is a very thoughtful product, there is still no place for its improvement and there seems to be no limit to this place. In conclusion, the theme remains to add that on the above principle it is possible to produce quite a lot of different systems, ranging from small experimental models of fountains, to huge working models. With the latter, however, there is a problem of recharging, which without a pump or other ingenious devices of our time is very, very difficult.
