Tips for installing moldings

If wooden skirting boards require fastening to self-tapping screws and dowels, then with polymer types everything is greatly simplified. All you need is the appropriate glue, for example, “Mounting”, “Liquid nails”, “Moment-installation”. Be sure to stock up on a stus. This is a device with which you can cut off the edge of the baseboard at the desired angle perfectly flat. To cut the baseboard, you will need a fine-toothed file.

Whether to glue the moldings on the wallpaper or before gluing them is up to you. On top of the wallpaper, of course, it is easier to glue, then you will not need to adjust the edge of the wallpaper. And on the other hand, suddenly you want to change the wallpaper over time, and the color of the baseboard will not work. It will be necessary to repaint it, and not all skirting boards withstand this, although initially you can choose just such a molding that will respond well to painting. If you glue the baseboards on a bare wall, then you first need to level it, and then use acrylic-based glue.

Be prepared that you will have to suffer a little with gluing, because it does not always turn out that the segments of moldings will be accurate the first time. It is better to leave it with a margin and then cut it off than to plaster a large gap that will catch your eye. After everything is glued, you need to wipe the joints with finishing putty. Putty can be applied immediately when the next piece of molding is glued. Then the putty will be squeezed out from the inside, filling the joints. The remains can then simply be removed with a finger or spatula. From the accuracy of the work will depend on the further atmosphere of your home.
