Repair of wet parquet flooring

Swelling of the slats after wetting the parquet is the most unpleasant option for damaging the flooring. This can happen as a result of a pipe break when the floor is completely under water. Wood has the property of absorbing moisture well, after which it is deformed. The way out of this situation can only be a complete replacement of the entire coating.

If you do not dismantle the wet parquet, mold will immediately appear under them and they will have to be replaced in any case, but during this time the fungus can spread to the walls and an unpleasant smell will appear in the room, which will not be easy to get rid of. For the above reason, the elements of the parquet are subject to dismantling. You need to clean the base from glue, dry well and then only begin to install the final coating.

It will take a long time to dry the slats, and before laying a new parquet floor, you need to make sure that the concrete base is dry. To this end, the surface of the concrete is covered with a dense film of polyethylene and waits 12-15 hours. After the allotted time, the waterproof material is inspected and if it is dry, then you can proceed to the installation of the parquet floor. The presence of even a small amount of condensate on the film indicates that the concrete layer should still dry out and it is too early to lay the decorative coating.

If a small area of the parquet surface gets wet, then you will have to raise not only these parquets, but also the floor elements located around the emergency place. This is necessary to make sure that the rest of the coating is dry.

Dismantled dies can be tried to dry, but, as a rule, you have to purchase new products, selecting them by color and texture relative to the rest of the parquet surface.
