comparison of water and electric underfloor heating

Imagine getting out of bed in your country house in the morning, stepping on a soft carpet in the direction of the kitchen, in order to brew coffee and start a new day and at one point the warm pile ends, and your foot is on an ice tile.

Not the most pleasant start to the day, is it?

This can be avoided by thinking through the installation of underfloor heating at the construction stage. Then every day, at least in one of the rooms of the house, your feet will not freeze.

Electric underfloor heating or water: a comparison

Features of the technology

Due to the fact that warm air rises, as is known from the school course of physics, from the bottom up, such a heating system will allow you to warm up the room several times faster. And also this way of heat intake is much more useful from a physiological point of view.

Types of underfloor heating

At the moment, there are two types of underfloor heating:

Water
Electric.
Each of them has its own specific features, which we described in detail in this article.

Pros and cons of water underfloor heating

Water underfloor heating got its name due to the fact that it has some similarity with the classic heating system for multi-storey buildings – radiator.

In the case of gender, everything, on the one hand, is simpler, on the other hand, it is more complicated.

Pipes through which hot water goes are mounted on a screed, poured with concrete, and flooring is laid on top. Such manipulations are difficult to perform independently, unless, of course, you have the appropriate experience and specialization, but it is worth admitting that such masters do not live in every apartment. In addition, there are certain problems with the installation of such a heating system in a city apartment – you need to coordinate this with the management company, and in private houses it is best to decide on the use of underfloor heating at the stage of the pit, and even better at the time of design.

PROS
Underfloor heating has a large number of advantages:

The most economical home heating system. Due to the fact that the coolant itself has a relatively low temperature (up to 50 degrees) in rooms with high ceilings, the cost of heating the room is reduced exactly twice.

Uniform heat distribution. Due to the fact that the warm-up goes from the floor, the optimal distribution is achieved – about 23 degrees at the level of the legs and 18 at the head.

Safety of operation. All heating elements are safely hidden under the floor covering, which allows you to safely leave small children indoors and not worry about the fact that they will get burned.

Aesthetics. The absence of visible heating elements in plain sight allows you to create modern interiors without reference to how best to hide, for example, radiators or convectors.

Utility. In a house with underfloor heating, it is much more difficult to catch a cold or feel uncomfortable. This is especially true for families with young children, who can simply be left on the floor without warm sliders or woolen socks.

CONS
In addition to a large number of advantages, underfloor heating has its drawbacks:

As mentioned above, one of the main disadvantages of the water floor is that its installation should be carried out by professionals.

And also it can not be mounted with heating from a gas boiler, because the floor will be too hot and all its advantages are leveled by these minuses alone.

In case of improper pipe laying, a leak is possible, which will be difficult to eliminate. This is due to the fact that the pipes at one of the stages of installation are poured with a concrete mixture and, accordingly, in which case, it is necessary to disassemble the entire structure.

Experts do not recommend using underfloor heating as the only heating system in the house. Ideally, it should be duplicated by additional heaters. Here you can add such a minus as the inability to regulate the temperature, if it has become hot from the floor, then you can only turn it off and wait for it to cool down.
Among other things, there are always places in which it is impossible to install a water floor, and accordingly, it will still be necessary to install, for example, convectors there.

On such a heating system, you can not install heavy furniture on top, that is, under the cabinet – the floor will not emit heat.
