Three different types of radiant underfloor heating systems should be considered. Each has its own idiosyncrasies that can make it better or worse for your home.

1. UNDERFLOOR HEATING SYSTEM WITH AIR HEATING

Air-heated systems are the oldest type of radiant heat, which was first used in China, Korea and Rome. Air heating systems are slightly less efficient than other types and are therefore less common. Instead of pumping air directly under your floor, heated air circulates through a series of tubes, similar to how water is used.

The difference is that air is lighter and easier to push through the tubes, so it could be a faster system.

In this system, you’ll use a heater, but instead of pushing air through ductwork to the air vents, it will push air through ductwork or pipes in your floor, heating it up.

The energy efficiency of this system can be challenging. However, since heaters are built into the floor along with air ducts, in general they take up less space; You don’t need a big furnace or boiler.

You need to make sure that the system is closed and well sealed, and it needs to be installed with a wet installation. Heaters are placed in boxes inside the concrete and can be placed anywhere for easy access. If necessary, this can simplify maintenance and repair.

Air-heated floors can be used in all types of buildings and with any floors, including parquet, parquet, tile, stone, laminate, vinyl, linoleum and concrete.

They can be installed both in the bearing plate at ground level, and in the suspension ceiling system.

When installing the slab, the soil is leveled and covered with a layer of polystyrene. It is then used to hold furnace boxes, piping, and ductwork, which are held in place by a grid level.

The concrete is then poured over the top of the installation in the usual way, like creating a slab. Curing begins in 3 days, and the whole process takes about 3 weeks.

Modernization is possible, but still requires the use of poured concrete, wet installation. Dry installation may not be possible with this type of system.
