Quite often, residents of apartments and private houses face a problem – they constantly feel a lack of warmth, despite the systematic supply of heated coolant. This causes significant discomfort. To solve the problem, the number of sections in the radiator can be increased. This will achieve a comfortable temperature.

Possibility of Adding Sections
Sectional radiators can be enhanced by adding one or more sections. In this case, the apartment owner will not have to pay more for heating, provided that special meters for measuring coolant consumption are not installed in the home. The size and number of radiators do not affect the fixed bill amount, but the air temperature in the apartment will increase significantly.
It should be noted that when the system capacity is incorrectly calculated from the start (this applies to houses with individual heating), increasing the size of the radiators is not the best way to improve heat output. This method will significantly increase the load on the network.
Necessary tools
Before adding sections to an aluminum radiator, the following tools and materials must be prepared:
The radiator section itself.
Special seals.
Adjustable wrench No. 2.
Heating nipples.
Radiator key.
Sandpaper.
Battery plugs with right-hand and left-hand threads.
How to make a T-shaped key yourself
A radiator key cannot be found in stores, so it will have to be borrowed from acquaintances or made by yourself. To make one, you need to take rebar with a diameter of 14 or 16 mm. One end, 40 mm long, must be heated with a gas burner almost to white heat, after which it should be flattened with a sledgehammer on an improvised anvil. This process is repeated several times. At the same time, the required size and shape must be given. It is best to have a single nipple on hand to immediately fit the blank. After achieving the necessary dimensions, you should proceed to harden the working area. The treated end is heated again and dipped into cold water or motor oil. The second option is better, but you must ensure the oil does not catch fire. The key should be moved in circular motions until it cools completely.

For convenience during use, the tool should be equipped with a crosspiece at the other end. You need to take two pieces of rebar, each 15 cm long. They are welded in an overlap to each other and to the end of the radiator wrench.
In some cases, instead of a crosspiece, a ring is made. The internal diameter should be 4-6 cm. The bent edge must be welded. Sometimes it is more convenient to use such a wrench. It is designed for performing work without removing the radiator. In this case, a T-shaped tool will not reach, as the distance from the wall will be insufficient. Because of this, in some cases, even a wrench with a bare end is used. A gas wrench No. 2 will be required to perform the work.
Step-by-step Instructions
Before adding sections to a radiator, certain preparatory work must be carried out:Drain all the water from the heating system.
Dismantle the radiator.Check for any debris and scale inside. If any is found, all dirt must be removed.Inspect the pipes that connect the radiator to the heating system for scale. If any buildup is present, it should be removed using sandpaper.

Performing the preparatory work is essential to ensure that all connections will be watertight. Only after this can you proceed to the actual addition of sections.
Removing the plugs
Using a large adjustable or gas wrench №2, the plugs and bushings are unscrewed. These are hollow nuts with both external and internal threads. They are designed for connecting heating pipes to the radiator.
To remove the plugs, the radiator should be placed face up. The upper plugs are unscrewed towards you, and the lower ones away from you.
Installation of connecting nipples
The removed radiator is placed on a flat surface, and opposite it, the section to be added should be positioned. It is important to note that one side has a left-hand thread, and the other side has a right-hand thread.
Now take a nipple and position it so that the threads on the sections to be joined align perfectly. After that, the nipple is screwed onto the left side of the radiator for one turn of the thread. The same procedure should be followed for the other side.
Joining the sections
After installing the connecting nipples, the sections are positioned very tightly against each other. It is essential to lay a gasket between them, measuring the distance to the nipple. For this, a radiator wrench is used. It is inserted into the heater to the measured length.
When screwing in the nipple, it is necessary to ensure that the connecting element is screwed into both sections simultaneously. After this, use the radiator wrench to make 3 full turns. This will secure the nipple as tightly as possible.
Now the same procedure needs to be done on the other side of the radiator. It is important that after finishing the work, the connected sections are positioned as tightly as possible.
Installing the plugs
At the end, plugs and paronite gaskets are installed on the radiator. A gas wrench is used for this purpose. It is necessary to ensure they are tightly screwed in. This will guarantee good seal integrity. Installing valves is not mandatory. The installation of taps is optional. The described instructions are also suitable for other types of radiators. The principle of adding sections is always the same. The main thing is to follow the sequence of actions and not to rush.
